Bonzai is more than a word; more than a volleyball club.

Bonzai is a philosophy made up of principles and strategies that lead to success and happiness in every area of life.

Bonzai is a discipline that pays attention to the little details that contribute to making one great not just good.

Bonzai Volleyball Academy places emphasis in hard work, dedication, commitment and excellence.

Using the philosophy of Bonzai, Bonzai Volleyball Academy helps the individual become the best she can be by focusing on her strenghts and correcting areas of weakness or ability.

At Bonzai, we believe that before you can coach an athlete, you must teach an athlete.  Therefore, we emphasize 'teaching' and mastering of the basic skills, philosophies and strategies of volleyball.

The art of Bonzai, lies in the development of the whole person and athlete.  Our goal at Bonzai Volleyball Academy is to help our athletes develop into positive, confident, skilled and successful young ladies, both on and off the volleyball court.

Here is a little more background on the origins of Bonzai!
  • a Japanese cheer of enthusiasm or triumph
  • a cry or shout of approval
  • also used when cheering another person
  • Kind of like "charge!" which once meant a mounted charge but is now used at sporting events.
  • Bonzai was also a battle cry that meant something along the lines of "I would trade the next ten thousand years for this moment!" Meaning, the honor of what you're about to attempt would more than be worth the value of living for ten millennia.
  • Bonzai as it relates to the ancient art and philosophy of Bonsai, represents a fusion of strong ancient beliefs with the Eastern philosophies of the harmony between man, the soul and nature.
  • Bonsai means plants potted in a shallow dish.  Bonsai trees are works of art like paintings and sculptures. They take time and a lot of thought.
